Lady Gaga silences transphobic social network trolls. Lady Gaga, 37, wrote a long public statement to respond to the hateful comments TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney got over her recent International Women’s Day photograph with Gaga. “When I read a newspaper article about hatred and it is called ‘backlash’, I think it’s important to clarify the fact that this type of hatred is violent. “Backlash” would imply people who love Dylan or me did not like something we said. This is hatred. This is hate.”
“I feel very protected in this moment. Not only of Dylan but also of the transgender community, who continue to lead with their endless grace, inspiration, and intolerance in the face of constant degradation, hatred, and physical verbal, and mental violence,” Gaga said. “I do not claim to speak for the trans community but I am able to express my opinion. I hope that we will all come together for International Women’s Day to honor all of us. May this continue until the DAY when all women are treated equally. All people should be celebrated equally. People of all gender identities can celebrate whichever holiday they choose. People of all races and gender identities deserve dignity and peace. We must all be accepting, loving, and welcoming. We should all honor the complexity of trans life, that we don’t know but can try to understand.” Many Instagram users left condescending comments and called Dylan “not a woman.”
